A NOVEL FOR CHILDREN WHO HAVE LOST A PARENT TO WAR AND FOR THOSE WHO WOULD UNDERSTAND THEIR PLIGHT
Children’s author Janet Muirhead Hill takes you into the heart and mind of a 10-year-old boy whose father is killed in Iraq. DANNY’S DRAGON: A STORY OF WARTIME LOSS (ISBN 0-9772525-0- 7) will be released in June, 2006. It is a fictional account of the reality faced by over twenty-four hundred American families who have lost a loved one in the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Danny’s family lives on a cattle ranch in Montana. As he remembers the good times before his father joined the Air National Guard, Danny struggles with the many stages of grief. His vivid imagination and Dragon, the horse his father gave him, exacerbate his pain but finally help him to accept the loss. With the family ranch in jeopardy, Danny learns a lot about himself, his family, the world, and the fellowship of suffering, even among the “enemy” when he has to move to the city and attend a large public school.
Montana author, Janet Muirhead Hill has also written the Starlight books, a series of six novels for children ages 8-14. In these stories young Miranda Stevens and Starlight, the horse she loves, experience many misadventures that result from her impulsive, passionate nature. Many young fans say they love the books because the issues faced by Miranda and her friends are relevant to their own lives.
Raven Publishing, Inc. promotes the works of authors who share its mission of tackling important contemporary issues through fiction helping readers face their own dilemmas. The press is releasing DANNY’S DRAGON in an effort to increase awareness about the daily lives of children whose families have been torn apart by war and the death of a parent.
Danny's Dragon is available in bookstores and libraries along with other Hill “True Fiction” novels, the Miranda and Starlight six-book series and Kyleah's Tree.
